The Difference Between Judgment and Awareness
Awareness sees what is. Judgment decides whether it's allowed to be. Learning the difference is quietly liberating.
One of the most useful distinctions in Access Consciousness is between judgment and awareness. They can look similar from the outside, but they feel completely different from the inside.
Awareness: seeing clearly
Awareness simply notices what is. 'I'm tired.' 'That didn't work.' 'This makes me uneasy.' There's no verdict attached — just clear seeing, which is the ground of any good choice.
Judgment: the added verdict
Judgment piles a conclusion on top: 'I'm tired, and I'm weak for it.' 'That didn't work, and I'm a failure.' The extra layer doesn't help you act better — it just adds weight and shuts down possibility.
- Awareness informs; judgment condemns.
- Awareness keeps options open; judgment closes them.
- Awareness is light to carry; judgment is heavy.
Turning down the judgment
The practice isn't to force positivity, but to notice when a plain observation has been loaded with a verdict — and to set the verdict down. What's left is clearer, kinder and far more workable.
You can be fully aware of something without deciding it makes you good or bad.
Loosening self-judgment is one of the quiet gifts people describe from this work. If that appeals, a session with Bhavesh in Pune is a gentle place to start.
